Marin County is rich with homes like this. It’s the reason why I’m almost evangelical about this county because living here has the best of both worlds: comfort and quality.

And it’s the kind of wealth that consistently appreciates.

There’s certainly nuances with each area of the Marin, but as a whole, the luxury real estate market here offers long-term appreciation, rental income opportunities and overall higher quality of life

As a buyer here you’re inherently doubling as an investor.

In the Bay Area in general, historical performance has demonstrated excellent long term growth with consistent appreciation rates and high demand for its properties (refer to my IG for monthly stats by city).

Here’s key factors that I’ve observed keep Marin (particularly Southern Marin) resilient throughout the years.

Desirable Location

Marin County offers close proximity to San Francisco, while still providing the serenity and charm of a suburban community. With its stunning landscapes, access to outdoor recreation, and overall peaceful atmosphere, Marin County is a highly sought-after location for upscale living.

Top-rated Schools

Marin County is home to some of the top-rated schools in California, attracting families seeking an exceptional education for their children while enjoying a luxurious lifestyle. Tamalpais Union School District, San Rafael City District, Novato Unified School District just to name a few.

Diverse Investment Options

The luxury real estate market in Marin County offers a range of investment opportunities, including large single-family homes, multi-unit buildings, and luxury condominiums.


There’s a consistently strong demand for luxury housing in Marin County, which would provide a steady stream of high-end tenants, ensuring a reliable source of rental income for property owners.

My candid advice

I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to work with a local expert. Someone who knows the area like the back of their hand is going to have the acumen to predict where the value of the area is projected to go. They have nuanced information that a regular person might not have, like demand for home staging companies, photographers, and potential construction projects in the pipeline in specific areas.

Opinions will vary, but in my experience Southern Marin (mill valley, larkspur, belvedere, tiburon, sausalito) has always maintained its strength in the luxury real estate market.

Month to month numbers will fluctuate but the long term gains of this area are undeniable.
